Rival Downhole Tools (Rival), the leading provider of best-in-class drilling and thru tubing motors and tools to the upstream oil and gas industry, and Ashmin Holdings (Ashmin), announced today the issuance of two patents by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. These patents are for a proprietary percussion drill bit and percussion downhole drilling motor technology.
The patent for invention No. 10,017,994 is for a drill bit inclusive of a rotating force or “hammering” element integrated into the traditional structural and cutting elements of fixed cutter or roller cone drill bits. The patent for invention No. 10,017,991 is for a Hammer Drill downhole drilling motor inclusive of a percussion or “hammering” anvil incorporated into Rival’s mud lubricated bearing assembly.
“These latest patents further advance our performance offering for our customers,” said Neil Fletcher, CEO, Rival Downhole Tools. “The demand on drilling motors continuously increases and will not stop in the foreseeable future. We believe the integration of percussion into drilling motors and drill bits only furthers what Rival’s technologies can do for our customers. These are our fourth and fifth patents so far this year, which adds to our Ashmin legacy and enables Rival’s further advancement toward the top of downhole technology providers.”
These latest patents come just a month after Rival was issued their patent for radial bearings and method application for use in their mud lube drilling motor bearing assemblies.
Rival has a 16-year history of providing drilling motor technology to the industry. Its latest motor technology, the Rival PDM, has been deployed more than 150 times in multiple basins in the U.S. In its first 90 days of launching, the Rival PDM has already accumulated over 3,500 drilling and circulating hours. Rival is currently shipping their first friction reduction tools, the Rival FRT, into the rental market this month.
